Performa is developing The Forge, a two-block
entertainment district adjacent to the
Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex,
giving tourists, conventioneers and residents
new options downtown. The name speaks to
Birmingham’s past as an iron and steelmaking
town and symbolizes the sparks of excitement
the hotspots at The Forge will generate. As
with all Performa developments, the selection
of tenants reflects local music, history and
culture. Alabama American Idols Taylor Hicks
and Ruben Studdard each plans to open a
club in The Forge. Other tenants who have
signed letters of intent or leases include
Rhythm & Brews, Iron City Saloon, Bluesboro,
Wet Willie’s, Sleep Out Louie’s, Mesquite
Chop House and Wow Cafe & Wingery.
